Activating Your Service (SIM Card):

Make sure your phone is off.
Snap out the Colombia SIM card from the card holder and insert the SIM card into your Phone.  Ensure the metal portion is making contact with the contact prongs. You will usually find your phone's SIM tray underneath the battery of your phone.  Turn on your phone and enter the PIN code provided with the SIM Card. Check that your phone powers on normally and that you can access menus. Do not make or receive a call.  Make sure you are in Colombia before using your phone to make calls.

Adding Minutes to your Phone (wait to you arrive in Colombia):

Turn on your phone in Colombia and make sure you have a good signal.  Apply the credit from your "Amigo" Minute Card (scratch-card) from your phone's keypad to activate your calling minutes and service. Call *600 <SEND> and wait until the automated woman's voice stops talking and then enter the numbers (scratched-off) from the back of your "Amigo" Minute Card.  When the woman's voice acknowledges your credit you can start making and receiving calls!  Additionally, your phone's display will show the amount of Pesos that was added, i.e., 10,000, 20,000, or 30,000 pesos.

If you need help just ask (with a smile and greeting of the day) any Colombian for assistance.  They will be more then happy to help you.

Check your account balance:

You can check your account balance anytime by dialing: *300 <SEND>.

Adding Additional Minutes:

You can add more minutes anytime you want by purchasing another "Amigo" Minute Card (scratch-card). These can be found at street vendors, gas stations, grocery stores, office supply stores, and in Comcel stores. The cards come in 10,000, 20,000, 30,000, 50,000 and 100,000 peso denominations.  To recharge your account: dial: *600 <SEND>. The automated system will ask you to put in the card code (follow the same procedures outlined above).

Problem Solving:

For other questions relating to using your prepaid cellular service in Colombia, you can call Comcel customer service. Customer service is available 24 hours a day by dialing *611 <SEND> from your cell phone.  If you are not finding a network, make sure that your cell phone is set to the 850/1900 GSM band. (Some phones do not switch bands automatically.) Consult your phone's user guide if unsure how to do this.

If you need help just ask (with a smile and greeting of the day) any Colombian for assistance.  They will be more then happy to help you.

Service Life (SIM Card):

Your Comcel Colombia SIM card is valid 3 months after activation if you don't add additional minutes.  If you add additional minutes every 3 months your SIM Card will be active indefinitely.
