Personal Drivers
One of the best ways to travel, to or from the airport (MDE), or in the city of Medellin, is to hire a personal driver. This is not as expensive as it sounds and has worked very well for a lot of our friends and visitors.

Best Way to find a Driver: We recommend obtaining all your transportation needs from Medellin Visitor Guide.
Another Way: If you find a Medellin taxi driver that you are comfortable with, and want to repeat the experience, ask the driver for his business card. We suggest you get the cards from at least 3 drivers. Put their name and numbers in your cell phone and give them a call when you need a ride. It's like having your own personal driver!
How Much will it Cost: Personal drivers charge approximately 22,000-25,000 pesos per hour. This hourly amount can be more or less depending on your needs. If your making multiple short trips, with waiting time in between, most drivers will give you a discount of 2,000 pesos per hour. If you take a long journey that requires more gasoline you can expect to pay a little more per hour. The fee to or from the airport (MDE) is 70,000 pesos.
Finding more then a Driver: You will probably develop a personal relationship with your driver like many of our friends have. My personal driver is on call 24/7 and is always there for me. He has helped me with many things including finding my first apartment, buying furniture, locating the right person for this or that. Also he has assisted me many times when people could not understand my limited Spanish. This type of relationship works to every ones advantage plus you will have a friend for life.
