Medellin Taxis
There are over 20 taxi companies with Taxi Stands interspersed throughout Medellin and the adjoining cities. You will have no problem flagging down or calling a taxi, except on Friday and Saturday evening or when its raining.

Follow the easy recommendations below and you'll discover an inexpensive way to travel around Medellin!
Taxi Fares:  Taxi fares are posted on the front windsheild.   All Taxis use meters which start at 1,800 pesos when you first get in the taxi. No matter how short your taxi ride is the Standard-Minimum Fare is 3,500 pesos or about $1.98.  A typical 20 minute taxi ride will cost about 7,500 pesos.  You can also hire the taxi for 20,000 pesos ($11.30) an hour.  This is a great way to tour Medellin and enjoy yourself.  Remember, as you get in the taxi, check and make sure that the meter has been cleared and shows the starting fare of 1,800. If not, remind the driver to clear the meter.

Getting a Taxi:  The best way to get a Taxi in Medellin, is to call one (444-0000) from your hotel room or ask the front desk to call one for you.  The dispacher with give you the taxi number and how many minutes for the cab to arrive.  Write down the number and compare it to the taxi that arrives.  Remember, some taxis listen on the open radio frequency and try to arrive before the real taxi arrives.  Make sure you take the right taxi!

Paying:  Most Colombian's do not tip taxi drivers nor do the drivers expect a tip. The only exception to this is if they help you with luggage or packages or provide extra service.  Its always best to carry some small bills (1,000 & 2,000 peso bills) and change since some drivers have limited change to give you.

Hire a VIP Car & Personal Driver:  One of the best ways to travel in Medellin is to rent a car from Medellin Auto Rentals or hire a Personal Driver from the Medellin VIP Hotel.  Either way you'll be able to see more of Medellin and really enjoy your trip.  Give them a call today!
